Percy Jackson and The Olympians

Percy Jackson and The Olympians Series – Book Review

Welcome to my another book review. This time I am going to review on a pentalogy book series, called Percy Jackson and The Olympians!

Basic Info on the Book Series

  •  A Pentalogy (A book series consists of 5 divisions/books)
  •  Fantasy Adventure Novel
  •  Written by Rick Riordan
  • More than 69 million copies of the book have been sold! A bestseller.
  •  The book is adapted into a film!

Special Features

Why do I recommend this book? Because of these special, abnormal, crazy features!

  •  Every chapter comes with a hilarious chapter title. Like “A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers”, “We get Advice from a Poodle”, “I Place An Underwater Phone Call”.
  •  The series’ key character, Percy has Dyslexia, which is a reading disorder.  This is one of the reasons he always get kicked out of his normal school!
  • The book does somewhat resembles the famous Harry Potter series. For example, a trio group of friends, both contains magical creatures like dragons and giants, Percy and Harry have similar personality etc.

Series Summary (No spoiler)

Percy Jackson’s life before his sixth grade is very miserable. He constantly gets kicked out from school, always having to narrow escape from being killed by monsters, he also had to put up with his disrespectful, abusive stepfather. Then, he found out he is a half-blood (Half God, half mortals), a demigod by the help of his weird friend Grover. He attends some sort of summer camp called “Camp Half-Blood”, a place for demigods to train themselves to learn to fight monsters. A dangerous Titan Lord called Kronos is rising, threatening the whole Olympians. To prevent this, he has to go through a lot of dangerous quests. Will he succeed in all of his quests?

My Rating and Opinion

Rating: 8/10

  • There were no boring scenes and dialogues. Everything was full of action, which is very exciting and makes me hard to put the book down.
  • There are many Greek Gods, terms in the book series. Although the book will explain and introduce what they are, it is still quite hard to catch up.
  • The final book, The Last Olympian is definitely the best! There are many actions and fighting scenes. Totally Marvellous!
  • The books are not really that difficult, but it is possible you will occasionally find some vocabs you don’t understand.
  • I really enjoy guessing the real meaning of the prophecies given to the demigods. It is fun!
