Coronavirus Corner: Here’s why you shouldn’t be TOO scared at the COVID-19

(I am not promoting any fake news here!)

WOW! The coronavirus has killed 10000 already! You are so worried that you will die if you catch the disease, aren’t you?

NO! It is definitely not a death sentence if you catch the disease. COVID-19 only kills about 4% of people and it mainly targets old people and people with health problems, such as diabetes.

I can tell you that the virus really targets old people by this chart:

Statistics(COVID-19 Fatality BY AGE): By www.scientificanimations.com - Illustration from https://www.scientificanimations.com/wiki-images . Data from: The Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Emergency Response Epidemiology Team. The Epidemiological Characteristics of an Outbreak of 2019 Novel Coronavirus Diseases (COVID-19) — China, 2020[J]. China CDC Weekly, 2020, 2(8): 113-122, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=87553446

You see? People that are 80+ has a death rate of 14.8%! Children and young adults only have a death rate of 0.2%, it kills 1 in 7 if you are 80+ and 1 in 500 if you are young. That means, as long as you are young and healthy, you have a very low chance of being killed by the coronavirus! And children that are 0-9 (Not shown in the chart) has a death rate lower than <0.1%, that means you children are safe!

It is unlucky if you have the following health problems, check the chart:

If you get these disease, then the chance that you got killed by coronavirus is at least 6 times higher than normal people. People with heart problem (Cardiovascular disease) have a death rate of 10.5%, and people with diabetes have a death rate of 7.3%. That’s pretty high!

But don’t let you guard down! You still need to wash hands, wear masks!!!

Hope you like my post. Good luck and stay safe!
